What customers ask AI about plumbers

These are the kinds of questions I run when I audit plumbers. They are examples of real buyer phrasing, not results.

  • "Emergency plumber open now near me"
  • "Who installs tankless water heaters in my town?"
  • "Is a licensed plumber required to replace a water heater in Texas?"
  • "How much does it cost to fix a slab leak?"
  • "Best plumber for a sewer line camera inspection"

Urgent jobs and planned jobs

Plumbing is mostly urgent. Leaks, clogs and no hot water need someone today. Planned work like repiping, water heater upgrades and remodel plumbing is quieter but higher value, and customers research it more carefully.

Urgent questions reward accurate hours, a clear service area and recent reviews. Planned questions reward clear service pages, credentials and honest answers to the research questions people ask before they call.

Sites AI tends to lean on

Every trade has its own set of trusted sources. For plumbers, these come up often when I trace where an answer came from.

  • Google Business Profile. Accurate hours, including after hours, are critical for emergency answers.
  • Yelp. Often cited for service quality and response time comments.
  • Angi and HomeAdvisor. Common in plumbing comparisons and cost questions.
  • State license lookup. In Texas the plumbing board license search confirms a licensed plumber, and licensing questions point there.

Your Google Business Profile sits under all of them. If it is incomplete, fixes elsewhere count for less.

Schema and service pages to add

Structured data helps machines read your facts without guessing. Our schema guide covers the basics. For plumbers I usually suggest:

  • Plumber as the business type.
  • openingHoursSpecification that reflects real emergency availability.
  • Service for drain cleaning, water heaters, leak detection and repiping.
  • FAQPage for licensing and emergency steps.

Give these services their own page, each stating the service and the towns you cover in plain words:

  • Emergency plumbing
  • Water heater installation
  • Slab leak detection
  • Drain and sewer cleaning

Where I would start

  1. Make sure your Google hours match what you really offer. If you take night calls, say so everywhere.
  2. Publish your license number on the site, matching your state record.
  3. Answer "what should I do before the plumber arrives" in plain steps.

Then we check the same questions on a schedule across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Claude, and read the trend over months. No one can guarantee a spot in an AI answer. We improve the sources and show you the results.

Does ChatGPT show plumbers that are open now?

It often relies on hours listed in Google and directories. If yours are wrong or missing, you can be skipped on urgent questions.

Should I list my plumbing license on my website?

Yes. It answers a common customer question and gives AI a fact it can confirm against the state record.

How do I get named for water heater jobs?

Give water heaters their own service page, mention the types you install, and gather reviews that mention that work.

Do cost questions hurt me if I do not publish prices?

No. Explaining what affects cost, like access, materials and permits, is useful and quotable without listing prices.
